▶️ Theme - *"Step Up the Pace: Strengthening Alliances and Building Movements to End FGM"*
🌍✂️ This day aims to raise awareness of this horrendous act of gender-based violence and the problems associated with it.
🔪🩸 *Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons*.
🌍✂️ It's the violation of the fundamental human rights of girls and women with very dire complications.
🔪🩸 *Over 230million girls and women worldwide are FGM survivors, about 4.4 million girls are projected to be at risk of undergoing FGM this year while an estimated 27million additional girls are at risk of undergoing FGM in the next 5 years* .
🌍✂️ As a huge global concern, it's elimination is imminent and has been marked for the year, 2030. This will be facilitated when we play our roles as Individuals, Civil Societies, NGOs, Government etc.
