MY STORY

I grew up in a family where my mother was maltreated severely for not having a male child. My parents eventually divorced and of course we (three sisters) suffered for it. We were exposed to a lot of risks and negative influences. I was particularly confused, did badly in school and lost confidence in my ability. My mother later came for me when I was 10years old and with assistance of members of her church I found a bit of guidance and started doing well in my new school.
As a teacher, when I see students who do not do well academically or those whose behaviours are tagged inappropriate in school , I do not just write them off rather Looking back at my background I believe that I can do something about it. I get closer to them so as to find out the source of their problems. I discovered over the years that about 80% of the students involved had one family problem or the other. I then started a forum for teenagers to discuss their issues and try to proffer solutions to them. We have sessions for strictly for girls where we share our fears and concerns for the future in a society where women are blamed for everything that goes wrong. I eventually founded a nongovernmental organization (TEENSED Foundation) to reach more girls and even women. We organize seminars and workshops on a monthly basis to discuss various issues of concerns to young people.
I have initiated campaigns, projects and programs with the sole aim of engaging, educating, equipping and empowering teenage girls and women to discover, develop and maximize their potentials. I go to schools and communities with my team using a self awareness book which I wrote “WE CAN STOP THIS ABUSE” to enlighten young people on techniques to use to prevent sexual abuse on themselves or people around them. On realizing that some rape and abuse cases where due to ignorant and poverty,I started “The Teenprenuer”an initiative to raise young global entrepreneurs with the aim of helping them to be financially independent, support the family and create jobs. I support women as a green ambassador by giving them access to clean cookstoves through a network distribution network; helping them to live healthy and earn money at the same time.
I believe that standing for girls and women is standing for the right course. The road may not have been smooth anyway, but it has been an amazing experience for me.
