From Classroom Dreams to Chart Success: Eddy Artens Makes His Mark with Nze Naawe 

KAMPALA — When Jjingo Edward decided to pursue music professionally in 2021, few outside his immediate circle knew who he was. Five years later, the artist better known as Eddy Artens is earning recognition in Uganda's music industry, thanks largely to the success of his hit single Nze Naawe.

The 25-year-old singer is among a new wave of Ugandan musicians attempting to break into an industry where competition is fierce and success is far from guaranteed.

Born and educated in Uganda, Artens attended St. Matia Mulumba Muslim Primary School before proceeding to Wakiso Hill Secondary School for his O-Level education. He later completed his Advanced Level studies at Kitebi Senior Secondary School, obtaining his UACE certificate.

Friends describe him as someone who maintained a strong interest in music throughout his school years, although he only formally entered the industry in 2021.

His early years as an artist were largely spent recording and releasing music while building a fan base from the ground up. During that period, he released songs including Wansubiza, Gwe Abulawo, Sembera, Call Yo, Mpumuza and Mbaala.

However, it was the release of Nze Naawe in 2025 that gave his career a significant boost.

The song quickly gained attention among listeners, with fans praising its message about love and companionship. Its growing popularity helped elevate Artens from a relatively unknown musician to one of the emerging artists attracting attention in Uganda's entertainment circles.

The breakthrough comes at a time when digital streaming platforms and social media are increasingly giving upcoming musicians opportunities to reach audiences without relying solely on traditional music promotion channels.

For Artens, the success of Nze Naawe has opened new doors and increased expectations for future releases.

While many artists struggle to move beyond a single successful song, industry observers say the real test will be whether he can maintain the momentum and convert newfound attention into a lasting career.

For now, the singer remains focused on recording new music and expanding his audience, hopeful that the success of Nze Naawe is the beginning rather than the peak of his journey in Uganda's music industry.
