Digital Balance for Better: Empowering Girls through Digital Skills

As technology continues to shape the future, young women in underserved communities must not be left behind. In response, as a World Pulse Featured Changemaker, I, Keturah Shammah, A World Pulse Featured Change maker and Itswell, a World Pulse Change maker https://www.worldpulse.org/profile/itswell--f1e7f833-e503-4205-be7e-0e3124181f25, have launched a "StrongerTogether" iniative known as "Digital Balance for Better," a transformative initiative aimed at equipping girls with essential digital skills for education, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.

This initiative seeks to train 50 young women aged 15-25 from rural and marginalized communities in Nigeria. Participants will gain foundational knowledge in digital literacy, website development, social media marketing, and online safety, ensuring they can effectively navigate and leverage the digital world.

Despite the rapid growth of digital economies, many young women lack access to the skills and tools needed to thrive in the digital space. The "Digital Balance for Better" initiative aims to address this gap by providing:

  • Basic Digital Literacy Training – Covering internet navigation, communication tools, and cybersecurity awareness.
  • Website & Graphics Desig Basics – Teaching WordPress, Canva, and branding essentials for digital entrepreneurship.
  • Social media & Digital Marketing for Business – Empowering girls to use digital platforms for income generation and storytelling.
  • Mentorship & Peer Learning – Connecting participants with mentors and encouraging peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.

The initiative will be documented as World Pulse’s “Stronger Together” initiative, where progress updates, success stories, and participant testimonials will be shared.

By the end of the program, it is expected that:

  • 50 girls will gain foundational digital skills.
  • 30 girls will create personal websites or digital portfolios.
  • 20 girls will launch online businesses or initiatives using social media.
  • Increased confidence and participation of young women in digital entrepreneurship and leadership
