Dehumanizing Womanhood in Nigeria

We have seen series of how the female gender in Nigeria are manhandled in various aspects of life. If it's not a husband that battered her wife to death, it's a teenager being raped to death or even married off to a man old enough to be her grand father.

These ugly human rights violations keep unfolding in Nigeria day after day and culprits hardly get punished severely.

Earlier this August 2025 in Lagos Airport in Nigeria, a lady was dehumanized by an airline known as AIR IBOM because of not putting her phone off.

She boarded a domestic flight and attendants warned her to off her phone but she put the phone on plane mode. On arrival to her destination at the Lagos Airport, Nigeria she was denied to step down from the aircraft and a hot argument ensued between her and the air hostess of the plane.

We were told the air hostess pushed her down and she got angry and slapped her.

This attracted the attention of the aviation staff who came in together with the air plane staff, dragged her down the plane to the ground and in the process, her blouse was ripped and all her breasts exposed.

Now, I am not writing this story to justify the lady passenger involved slapping the air hostess. Yes, she was provoked and she acted wrongly. Stories are also coming out to prove that lady passenger has a weird ugly lifestyle which is not why am writing this article because, that's her lifestyle and because she had that lifestyle, is also not a good justifying reason for the airplane and aviation staff to beat her, dragged her down from the plane to the extent of exposing her breasts all over to the public.

As if that wasn't enough, they took her straight to kirikiri Prison and locked her up.

She was also banned from boarding flights in Nigeria ( but as of the date of this article, I learnt the ban has been lifted by the Nigerian Aviation minister, Festus Keyamo and the staff who tore her blouse took all the pictures of her exposed breasts to be sanctioned)

Ofcourse, that was because, Nigerians took to social Media to condemned the way she was dehumanized by the airline.

My questions are while I watched the videos ....

•Would the airplane staff did same if that was a man?

• Could they have dragged a man violently from the plane down to the ground and even took him to prison?

•Was there no other ways to manage such misbehaved customer?

•What happened to conflict management in situations like this with customers?

Well, presently Nigerians haven't heard the final resolutions of this case because they will charge her to court.

This is also a wake up call for women to know how to manage their anger and character in public. That lady passenger-

Comfort Emmason, if well mannered would have adhered to the rules of the airline of switching off her phone. That's always the procedures.

Again no matter how bad they provoked her, slapping an attendant was extreme and that was the 'last straw that broke the Carmel's back.'

Hopefully, she would get justice !!!
