#3 Sustainable Beauty

Hey guys! Today I am going to share some simple ideas to help you become low-waste and sustainable whilst still feeling great!

1 - Use bar soap!

You can get shampoo, conditioner and body wash in bar form relatively cheaply. It's great as the packaging is cardboard and the soap itself slowly disappears! No big plastic bottles going to landfill! I have also noticed that most soaps available have better ethical properties and are more focused on their environmental impact than big brand plastic contained products.

2 - Use a wooden or recycled toothbrush

You can purchase toothbrushes made out of decomposable materials that you can pop I the compost heap when you're done with it. You can also get some made out of recycled plastic. Similarly, you can buy floss in one container, with just the floss string, rather than individual plastic flossers.

3 - Use less water!

Having a shorter shower and getting in as soon as you turn it on (rather than getting distracted and leaving it running like I do sometimes!) will help conserve water. Having fewer baths and sticking to a quick shower will also help reduce your water usage.

4 - Go back to your bare self

This is likely to be the most challenging of the ideas I have suggested so far. Avoiding painting your nails, plastic glue ons or getting your nails done at a salon, means less plastic and less hazardous nail polish remover and cotton pads. Waking up without the hassle of makeup will mean you can get started on your creativity, work and ideas quicker and spend less money on beauty products. You are your best self for the love, creativity, care and inspiration you share NOT what you look like.

5- Break away from the stereotype

Women are bombarded with products to remove all sorts of unwanted natural features. Skincare products have been on the rise and social media isn't helping. Understand you are perfect as you are and anti-wrinkle cream is going to make no difference to your life. Use the time you would normally spend on getting ready, to read, talk to a friend, study or create!

Hopefully, these tips will help you in your sustainable journey :)

Of course, I must mention that makeup and all things beauty make some of us super happy and give us confidence. It is absolutely fine to continue with this, but just add in some mindfulness to your routine - Does this serve me? Does this bring me happiness? Does this help the planet?

Let me know your ideas below!
